NRH Lead Check
What is NRH Lead Check?
Each year, the City of North Richland Hills (NRH) provides 4 billion gallons of clean and reliable drinking water to more than 70,000 residents and businesses throughout the city. NRH Public Works maintains a “superior” water system ranking from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) by complying with federal and state regulations and conducting regular quality checks.
In 2024, NRH launched the NRH Lead Check initiative to comply with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Lead and Copper Rule Revision (LCRR), which requires all municipalities to prepare an inventory of both city-owned and customer-owned water service lines and make it publicly available. The NRH Public Works Department is in the process of compiling an inventory of the materials in over 23,000 water service lines in North Richland Hills.
Your water service line will be checked by authorized City contractors as part of NRH’s existing water meter replacement program and data will be collected from City records. Though not required, residents may also check and report their water service line via an online mapping platform. This will contribute to the most comprehensive inventory possible. The inventory will identify if lead or galvanized steel* pipes are present.
How will I know if lead or galvanized steel is identified in my water service line?
You will be mailed a notice from the City of North Richland Hills if lead or galvanized steel* is detected in a water service line on your property with information and next steps. Additionally, you can check your property using the link below.
This fall, the City will also notify customers whose water service line material has not been identified yet and provide information from the EPA about the health effects of lead and ways to reduce possible exposure.
*Galvanized steel water service lines may require replacement if a portion of the line is or was downstream from another line made of lead or unknown materials.
